Service Overview
Why remove a stump?
After a tree has been removed, the remaining stump can be unsightly and inconvenient. It may cause trip hazards, interfere with landscaping, or prevent new planting in the same area. Stump removal creates a clean, usable space and prevents regrowth from certain species.
How stump grinding works
We use a specialist stump grinding machine to carefully grind the stump down below ground level. Rather than digging out the entire root system, the stump is reduced into wood chips while surrounding ground disturbance is kept to a minimum. This method allows the area to be safely reused without major excavation.
Depth and ground use
The stump is typically ground deep enough to allow:
- Turfing or reseeding
- Replanting shrubs or small trees
- Paving or light landscaping
We can advise if deeper grinding is required depending on the intended use of the space.
Why stumps sometimes need treatment
After a tree is cut down, some species can continue growing from the remaining stump or roots. This can lead to new shoots appearing around the area and may require repeated cutting if left untreated.
In certain cases, applying treatment prevents regrowth by stopping the root system from producing new shoots. Alternatively, stump grinding removes the stump entirely, leaving wood chips that naturally break down into the soil.
Treating or removing the stump is usually a one-off solution that avoids ongoing maintenance later.
After the work
The grindings can either be left for natural settling or removed if preferred. Once complete, the area can be levelled and prepared for planting or landscaping.
